Our Story
10 years ago, my husband and I caught the vision of reaching out to the Shan community in Chiang Mai.
The Shan people originate from Myanmar, but due to political struggles, many of them end up crossing the border into Thailand out of desperation. Here, they are essentially people without a country, making it difficult for them to survive, much less eke out a living.
As such, we decided to start a boys’ home with a batch of 10 Shan boys. Term Fun Home was born in April 2011.

A decade later, as we stand in the threshold where 3 of our boys will be graduating from high school, we can’t help but wonder what will happen to them when they leave Term Fun Home to pursue their college education.
In Thai society, 18 years old is the legal age for adulthood. As such, the boys would not be able to stay on with us, in a children’s home. So an alternative place is needed so that they would be able to pursue their college education in the city.

Tong hopes to major in English in university
We thought of looking up youth hostels for tertiary students for them. But our hearts remained uneasy with this option.
These 10 years have been a long journey of learning to understand and love each other with the love of God, and if we’re being honest with ourselves, we’re really not ready to let them go. And especially not at this age when they could still succumb to peer pressures and temptations easily. Our desire is for these boys to be near enough for us to still be able to reach out to them and to continue to mentor them.
Thus, the idea of Tanawat House grew: to provide a safe haven for these boys and subsequent boys who graduate from Term Fun Home.

Our goal is to raise S$100,000 for the land and the building which will become Tanawat House.
But how?
Well, we’re looking to get many people to donate a little each.
Specifically: finding 880 people to donate S$100 each!
This idea came to us through Mark 8:8, when Jesus was feeding the four thousand. Jesus multiplied 7 loaves and a few fish to feed the multitude – and there were 7 basketfuls left! What an apt reminder for this project. God will indeed multiply our resources – if only we have the faith to believe.
Will you be willing to join us in becoming one of the 880?
