Morning Market

Begin your day afresh with seafood by the bay. Walk through rows of local seafood, massive hairy crabs, and dried fish. Also experience squid fishing and eat your catch on the spot!

Breakfast: A donburi (rice bowl) topped with your favourite seafood.
Dessert: A slice of Japanese melon, sweetest melon we’ve ever tasted!

Fort Goryokaku

Visit this star-shaped citadel, one of Hokkaido’s best spots for viewing cherry blossoms!

Cherry blossoms continue to linger in the second week of May.

Catch cherry blossoms in full bloom at Goryokaku around 1-5 May each year!

Don’t forget to visit the Former Magistrate Office for some historical lessons, as well as the Goryokaku tower for a perfect view of the star-shaped citadel!

Kanemori Red Brick Warehouse

Be enchanted by the romantic charm of the Hakodate Bay area, made complete by this red brick warehouse.

Walk into handcrafted glassware shops, music box museums, quaint cafes, or simply take photos outside!

To get there: Take a streetcar (tram) to Jujigai, and walk 2 minutes to the Kanemori Red Brick Warehouse

Motomachi

Stroll along the delightful half-foreign, half-Japanese cityscape.

Discover historical buildings and be transported back to when Hakodate first opened up as a foreign trading port.

Mount Hakodate

Take the Hakodateyama Ropeway up to Mount Hakodate before sunset to catch both the day and night view.

Enjoy a panoramic view of Hakodate at the indoor observatory deck or the outdoor rooftop.
